VI International Symposium on Tomato Diseases

The ISHS VI International Symposium on Tomato Diseases will be held in Taichung, Taiwan from May 06-09, 2019. The symposium is arranged by the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) and is held every three years. It brings together about 200 international experts from different fields to disseminate their progress and facilitate the exchange of research and ideas.

In 2019, the event is organised by TomGEM partner AVRDC with the tagline “Managing Tomato Diseases in the Face of Globalization and Climate Change”. This focus makes it particularly relevant for TomGEM as the project’s vision is to design new tomato varieties as well as innovative breeding and management practices which deliver high yields and good fruit quality under high temperature conditions.

Following the main theme, symposium presentations are expected to illuminate how higher temperatures, more intense heat waves and longer periods of drought, change in precipitation patterns, more frequent wildfires, and an increase in the number, duration and intensity of tropical storms are fostering the development and spread of tomato diseases and altering pest behavior and distribution.
