Tomato variety "Aleno sartse” (Ruby Heart) wins innovation price at the XXVII International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA 2018

The International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA is one of the leading trade fairs for agribusiness in South Eastern Europe. It is being organized by the International Fair Plovdiv in partnership with the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Since its inception in 1993 AGRA has established itself as a well-known platform for manufacturers, traders, consumers and scientists to exchange on innovations and upcoming trends in the agricultural sector.

In the course of the Innovation Competition of the XXVII AGRA in February 2018, the new variety "Aleno sartse” (Ruby Heart), that has been included in the field experiment of the TomGEM project in 2016, has been awarded in the section "New Varieties". Although this tomato variety did not demonstrate high heat tolerance during the field experiments performed by the Bulgarian Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute (MVCRI) in the frame of TomGEM, it is unique because of its outstanding size, intensive color, saturated aroma and palatable taste. The award has been received by the Director Assoc. Prof. Daniela Ganeva and Prof. Galina Pevicharova of the MVCRI based in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).
